In this episode, we interviewed Inesa G. Lembert - co-founder and Strategic Architect of ESSENSE Business School, a different business school built for leaders who sense that the current models of leadership and business are reaching their limits

Inesa has spent more than twenty years working with founders and leaders as an Inside-Out Transformation Coach and Board Advisor - helping them see the unconscious patterns shaping their decisions and organisations, and expanding how they perceive the systems they lead

Her core argument: every company is a mirror of how its leaders perceive reality - so as AI absorbs analysis and execution, developing human perception becomes the highest-leverage work in the business

Key takeaways:

  1. Perception drives what companies actually do - one leadership team studied living ecosystems in a forest and came back with distributed leadership, cross-company initiatives and success measured by the health of the whole system

  2. The scarce capacities are the ones AI cannot replace - perception, relational depth, sense-making and the presence to shape what deserves to be built

  3. AI's best senior-level use is as a thinking partner - Inesa uses Claude and ChatGPT to develop research, explore philosophical questions and traditions, and test emerging concepts

  4. AI literacy is becoming a human capability, not a technical one - organisations using the same tools will get radically different outcomes depending on the maturity, imagination and quality of perception of the people using them

Who are you and what do you do?

I am the co-founder of ESSENSE Business School - a different business school for leaders who sense that the current models of leadership and business are reaching their limits. As an Inside-Out Transformation Coach and Board Advisor, I help leaders see the unconscious patterns shaping their decisions and organisations, expanding perception so they can build businesses in tune with life rather than extract from it.

What problem did you see that everyone else was missing?

After more than twenty years of working with founders and leaders, I came to see that every business carries the consciousness of the people creating it. Strategy, culture, products and systems all grow from how leaders perceive reality. ESSENSE emerged to develop the person, the business, the wider system and the living world together, because when leaders see those relationships more fully, a different quality of business becomes possible.

Walk us through one concrete way your work changes what companies actually ship - a real workflow, not the abstract

One creative business came to us convinced they were building an ecosystem. As we worked together, it became clear they had a group of companies connected by ownership rather than relationships. Instead of beginning with strategy, we took the leadership team into the forest to observe how living ecosystems function through diversity, interdependence and mutual support. Over the following months their conversations changed, cross-company initiatives emerged, leadership became more distributed and success was measured by the health of the whole system. The business changed because the way its leaders perceived it had changed.

What's the most common thing senior leaders get wrong about AI?

I don't think the biggest question is what AI can do. What I am thinking about is what remains uniquely human as AI becomes exceptionally good at analysis, frameworks and execution. The leaders who create the greatest value will cultivate the capacities AI cannot replace: perception, relational depth, sense-making and the presence to shape what deserves to be built. AI is as much a human development story as it is a technology story for me.

What's in your AI stack?

Claude and ChatGPT are the AI tools I use most consistently. It has become part of an ongoing thinking partner: developing research, exploring philosophical questions and traditions, extending and shaping my ideas, and testing emerging concepts.

What does your work actually look like day to day?

My days move between executive coaching, board conversations, research, writing, curriculum design and building ESSENSE as a living organisation. I might spend the morning helping a founder navigate a decision with personal and organisational consequences, and the afternoon designing learning experiences that connect business with philosophy, psychology, science, nature and systems thinking. A significant part of my work is listening for what has not yet become visible.

Where is your field in 12 months?

Within the next twelve months, AI literacy will evolve from technical fluency into a human capability we need to develop because of it. Organisations using the same tools will achieve radically different outcomes depending on the maturity, imagination and quality of perception of the people using them. The central question will shift from 'What can AI do for us?' to 'Who are we becoming through what we create with it?'

Where should readers find you?

You can find my work through ESSENSE Business School and on LinkedIn. The best place to begin is Makes Sense?, our year-long Public Talks series, which offers a direct experience of how ESSENSE thinks across disciplines through dialogue.

AI Central Voices is where the AI Central team sits down with the founders, executives, and builders shaping AI - going behind the scenes of how they operate, what they're betting on, and where the industry goes next.
