👋 Welcome to AI Central,

We recently stumbled on a thread on X where people were asking AI how smart they are - and it turned out it was telling almost everyone they're one of the smartest, even brand-new accounts!

The takeaway? You don't need AI to tell you how smart you are. What you do need is to know how to steer it, so you're not depending on it - which is just what we covered in this week's Bootcamp :)

With month two almost over, go and retake the quiz below. Has your score gone up? Have you learned something new? Let me know here.

Next week my team and I are cooking up something amazing for you - stay tuned!

Big hug and love you ❤️

📚 This week's recap

Chapter 19 - Why AI gets numbers wrong

Thirty five-digit multiplications. GPT-4o got two of them right. Every assistant can run code now, which fixes the arithmetic, but whether it bothers is its decision and nothing tells you either way. No code means no maths. Plus four things that happen to a spreadsheet on the way in.

Chapter 20 - How to tell real research from recall

1,600 queries through eight AI search tools, wrong more than 60% of the time, and almost never admitting it. The four walls it writes straight through without mentioning, and a four-minute check on any sourced report.

Chapter 21 - Get AI to argue with you

Tack "right?" on the end of a question and endorsement moved by up to 64 points across 45 assistants. Why "be brutally honest" doesn't fix it, and the four framings that do - starting with never telling it the work is yours.

Missed one? No problem. They're written to be read in order but any of them stands on its own. Pick the one that sounds most useful and read it with a coffee.

📆 Where we're headed

This week was about not being fooled by it. Next week is about holding it to a standard - and it's the last week of second month of AI Bootcamp series.

Monday. Judging what it hands you the way an editor would, in about 30 seconds.

Wednesday. The different ways an answer can be wrong and why the label matters.

Friday. Everything from AI 202 assembled into one playbook you could hand to somebody else.
